The Abakundakawa Co-op is our OG connection in Rwanda. We've been working with these dudes since 2015. Their washing station is located in Rwanda's Rushashi District and is the hub for nearly 2000 members, all of whom are smallholder farmers. The co-op is super progressive with a focus on water/energy savings, advanced pulp recycling methods, and two women empowerment associations within the co-op. We've worked closely with one of the women's associations, Hingakawa, and have a revenue-sharing platform with them where we contribute back to community-led projects. This past season we shared enough revenue for Hingakawa to begin construction on a long anticipated community center that will house childcare facilities, vocational trainings for off-season income, a sewing center for supplemental income, and goats & chickens for members' nutritional support.
